On Feb 16, 1968, Dr. Frederick Lowe, President of Manchester Community College, and state chairman for United Nations Day, met with Dr. James H. Halsey, Chancellor of the University of Bridgeport and President of the Connecticut U.N. Association to discuss planning of the UN Day in Connecticut. A statewide meeting of all local U.N. Chairmen was slated for March 30.
UN Day is celebrated on October 24, which is the anniversary of the signing of the U.N. Charter in San Francisco. Commemorations were held in communities around the Connecticut as a result of the efforts of these UN supporters.
