On Friday April 7, 2017 over 20 graduate students from the Global Development and Peace, and Global Media Communications programs at the College of Public and International Affairs, University of Bridgeport attended two briefings at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City.
Ms. Karin Orantes, Associate Public Information Officer, provided an in-depth presentation of the role of social media in the U.N. and how U.N. Social Media team manage use of social media in the promotion of international peace and security. Mr. David Marshall from the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights engaged the students in a lively and interactive discussion of human rights and protection of children in conflict and other forms of crisis. He also discussed the importance and significance of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR).
The UN briefings were made possible by the United Nations Department of Public Information. The University of Bridgeport has DPI-NGO status at the United Nations, and is a member of the UN Academic Impact (UNAI). The group was accompanied by Dr. Dave Benjamin, Associate Professor and Chair of the M.A. in Global Development & Peace.
