On Friday 27 April 2018, students from the MA in Global Development and Peace program and faculty from the College of Public and International Affairs, University of Bridgeport attended briefings at United Nations Headquarters in New York City.
Mr. Brendan Pastor, Participants and Communications Associate at the Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) UN Global Compact, provided an overview of the Global Compact and its framework and initiatives, including the Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME). He also shared some of the work of the PRME initiative, which has gained over 700 signatories and drawn attention to adopt the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in business and management-related education.
Ms. Dana Sleiman, Senior Public Information Officer at UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) engaged the group in a lively interactive discussion about the role of UNHCR in protecting and safeguarding the rights and well-being of refugees.
The UN briefings were made possible by the United Nations Department of Public Information. The University of Bridgeport has DPI-NGO status at the United Nations, and is a member of the UN Academic Impact (UNAI). The group was accompanied by Dr. Dave Benjamin, Associate Professor and Chair of the M.A. in Global Development & Peace.
